No one wants to be bored with all of the details of the birth. Really, people just want to see pictures. So I will keep this short. I went into the hospital at 11pm on Saturday June 11th, but was not dilated at all. Even after a night of not so fun contractions, I still wasnt progressing in the morning. They gave me an epidural hoping it would speed things along, but that didnt work. And I HATED the epidural. First of all, the guy botched it twice, leaving me with a spinal leak (which really sucked later on) and finally got it right on the 3rd try. And I hated the feeling (or lack thereof) I had in my legs. I didnt like being out of control. Then it wore off on my left side which was really fun. Finally it was determined I needed a c-section, something I was trying to avoid like the plague. But at this point, I just wanted it over with! Then they were back to prodding at my back again to give me a spinal (luckily not the same guy that gave me the epidural) and then we were off to the races. I was so tired and drugged up, I dont even really remember any of it. I just remember that as soon as she came out, Lee said, "Katie! She's cute! She's really cute!" Which was a huge step for him to say. He thinks all babies are ugly.
So our healthy, beautiful little girl was born at 4:43pm on June 12th (her due date). She weighted a whopping 2.56 kg, which I think equates to around 5 lbs 10oz! She was tiny. None of her clothes fit her! But were just glad that she was here and that she was healthy. We spent the next few days in the hospital, then finally got to come home on June 15th.
She is a great baby. I think we have been pretty spoiled. She has actually slept through the night for the most part since day one. I know they say not to let them go longer than 4 hours without eating, even over night... but what do you think I am, CRAZY? I am not going to wake her up if she is perfectly content to sleep. And the few times I have tried to wake her up to eat in the middle of her sleep, she is not happy. So I just let her be. That way we can all get some much needed rest.
Okay, here you go. Some pics of the first month of her life. Today is her ONE MONTH birthday and it has flown by so fast.
