Kinley's Broken Leg

The night of Superbowl 2014 we were all set up for the big game. We ordered pizza, made some buffalo chicken dip and were awaiting some friends to come over.

At the time, Kinley was going through a "I can do it myself" phase. She said she needed to go to the bathroom, but she didnt want us to stay in there with her. She said she would call us when she was finished.

Lee and I both checked on her several times, but she kept telling us she wasn't finished. She was in there a LONG time. But what harm was it causing? It was actually letting me get some things done that I needed before the game.

Just as the doorbell is ringing, blood curdling screaming comes from the bathroom. Kinley had fallen off the toilet! We figured it just scared her, but she would not stop screaming. This went on for quite some time with no calming her. I finally told Lee that I think he might need to take her to the hospital. Something had to be wrong if she was in this much pain. He was hesitant (as was I) because of course there was nothing wrong. She just fell off the toilet! It was a bruise at best and she was just being dramatic.

But he took her, and lo and behold... IT WAS BROKEN! She came home a few hours later with a cast all the way to her knee. She was a trooper! That night was rough because of the pain, but after that she never really complained. She couldn't put pressure on it for 2 weeks, so she started crawling to get around.

She had to wear the cast for about 4 weeks and by the end of that time, she was running around on it, wearing holes in the bottom of the cast. What a strong, resilient little girl!

We set up a little desk for her on the dining room table so that she could paint and play with playdoh. I know... why would we put her on a table when she is prone to falling off things and breaking bones?! But it was the only place she could play without Turner getting into everything!

We found out the day after the fall, that she was turning around trying to reach a book that was on the back of the toilet. She twisted too much and fell. We still arent sure what exactly happened to cause the break, but she now knows not to try that again!
